Rising Income
Your salary can increase by 2.5% or 5% per year, depending on the evaluation of your individual contribution, conduct, and development. Your salary can also go up if you get a promotion. If you make a horizontal switch to a different job in the same salary scale, you will receive a reward of EUR 1,000.
Employee Benefit Budget (EBB)
You get to decide how to spend your Employee Benefit Budget on whatever fits with your personal circumstances and preferences. You can have extra money paid to you every month, for example.
Read more about the EBB below.
In addition to their salary, 8% vacation pay, and 13th month pay, all Rabobank employees are given an Employee Benefit Budget (EBB) of 10% of their salary. Employees can choose how to use their EBB in a way that suits their personal circumstances and preferences.
Ways to use your EBB if you like:
- Pay out with your regular salary
- Buy extra days off
- Purchase a bike (or e-bike) inexpensively
- Add extra contributions to your pension without penalties
- Deduct your trade union membership fees
- Paying off part of your DUO student loan
Rabobank offers employees a solid pension plan. Here’s what you can expect:
- Monthly contribution: You and Rabobank pay for your pension together. Rabobank invests 21.5% over your pensionable pay and you decide how much of your salary to put towards your pension: 3.5% or 5.5%.
- Pension capital: your contribution goes into collective investment fund Rabobank Pensioenfonds.
- Retirement age: you can stop working when you reach state retirement age, but you could retire earlier too. Within certain limits, you can decide when to start receiving your pension.
- Fixed or variable: When you turn 58, you choose whether you want a fixed pension (a set amount every month) or a variable pension (the monthly amount can change). Your decision will apply until the pension agreement is revised per January 1, 2026.
- Put more aside: build up additional pension by depositing an extra contribution from your EBB (while taking tax limits into account).
- 80-90-100 plan: from four years before reaching retirement age, under certain conditions you can opt to work fewer hours without it affecting how much pension you have.
- Work 80% of your hours,
- Receive 90% of your salary,
- Continue to accrue 100% of your pension benefits.

We make it easy for you to commute sustainably. If you travel by train, we will give you an NS Business Card for 2nd class travel. You can also make use of an OV bike, and some of our offices have e-bikes for you to use.
If you prefer to use your own transportation, we provide a fixed commuter allowance. This allowance is close to the maximum tax-free amount per kilometer. You’ll be reimbursed for up to 50 kilometers each way.
Lease cars are available for employees in some positions, for example, those who have to drive a lot for business or work in a commercial capacity.
At Rabobank, your employment contract automatically ends when you reach the official retirement age. Want to keep working? You can discuss the option of staying on with your manager for up to five years after reaching retirement age.
Leave
Read everything about our various forms of leave.
You receive 187.2 hours of leave per year. That’s more than five weeks of vacation.
Buying Leave
Would you like more vacation days? You can buy additional hours of leave using your Employee Benefit Budget (EBB).
Here’s what this means for you:
- If you work full-time (36 hours per week), you receive 187.2 hours of leave.
- With your EBB, you can buy extra leave hours, with a maximum of 10% of your annual working hours.
- Example: If you work 36 hours per week, you can buy up to 187.2 extra hours of leave. That’s another five weeks of vacation.
Saving Leave
At Rabobank, you can not only buy extra leave, but also save it. This gives you flexibility to balance work and personal life — for example, for caregiving, a sabbatical, or early retirement.
Here’s how saving leave works:
- As of December 31 of each year, you may have saved up to 26 times your weekly working hours in leave.
- Example: If you work 36 hours per week, you can save up to 936 hours of leave.
- That’s 26 weeks, or half a year of leave.
May 5 – Liberation Day
In addition to official holidays, May 5 is a paid day off each year. We believe it’s important to celebrate freedom together.
In addition to national holidays, employees are also entitled choose their own day off. This so-called Diversity Day can be used to observe any holiday they choose, whether it be one of their own making or a holiday associated with their religion or way of life, such as Good Friday, Eid al-Fitr, or Diwali. Diversity Day hours are included in the standard package of annual leave days.
Employees entitled to pregnancy and childbirth leave will receive 100% of their pay for 16 weeks.
If your partner is having a baby, you are legally entitled to one week of paid leave and five weeks of additional leave. We will pay up to 100% of your salary during additional leave for the birth of a child.
Employees are entitled to 26 weeks of parental leave, to be taken before your child turns 12 years old. Of these 26 weeks, you can apply for 9 weeks of paid parental leave during the first year of your child’s life. The first four weeks you will receive 100% of your salary and 70% for the remaining five weeks.
Six weeks’ leave is available to parents who are adopting a child. During this time you will receive 100% of your salary.
Because grief is personal and affects everyone differently, Rabobank does not have a standard bereavement agreement in place. There is no one size fits all way to mourn, so we are flexible when employees are experiencing bereavement. In the event of the loss of a loved one, employees can talk to their managers about what they need at that moment.
Are you temporarily caring for a loved one? You are entitled to up to 100% paid leave during this leave.
Once every five years you are entitled to 13 consecutive weeks of leave. You can take a sabbatical with free days you have saved up or purchased, unpaid leave days, or a combination thereof.
After working at least one year at Rabobank, you can a request unpaid leave once every two years. You and your manager can agree on the duration and timing of this period of leave.
Rabobank is committed to building a resilient society. That’s why we support employees who choose to serve as reservists in the Dutch armed forces.
As a reservist, you take part in training and may be called upon to serve. Most of these activities take place outside regular working hours, during evenings or weekends. But sometimes you’ll need time off during the workday. In those cases, Rabobank grants you extra leave hours.
Each year, you can use up to twice your weekly working hours for reservist responsibilities. For example, if you work 36 hours a week, you’ll receive 72 additional leave hours. If you work part-time, the number of hours is adjusted accordingly.
Rabobank is committed to an inclusive workplace where everyone can be themselves. If you are undergoing a gender transition, you can access up to 24 weeks of paid transition leave over a ten-year period. This leave supports gender-affirming care and everything involved.
Your development
At Rabobank, we believe that your personal development goes hand in hand with the world’s. That’s why we make sure that you have the opportunity to work on your personal and professional growth.
Working at Rabobank means working on your own development and shaping your contribution to the world around you. You can do that with the GROW program. An important part of GROW is that you and your manager will remain in conversation about the course of your development over the entire year. You set goals for your personal development, your contribution to the world around you, and Rabobank’s objectives. We offer a variety of tools to help you grow and achieve your goals, such as an annual development budget and an online education platform.
Rabobank employees get to decide how they want to shape the course of their development and their career. We provide an annual development budget of EUR 1,400 that you can spend on one or more courses, trainings, or workshops. You can save the budget for three years.
Every position has its own skill set—a mix of professional and interpersonal skills required to do the job. A specific skill set shows you what is expected of you as well as which skills you need to improve in order to grow. If you have skills that could be applied in another role, there are plenty of opportunities for retraining and moving into a different field.
Besides the skills you need for your job, we at Rabobank prioritize 12 other skills. We know that these skills will be essential and remain relevant in the future, both at Rabobank and beyond. And that is why we encourage employees to develop these skills, for example through the Rabo Academy, a temporary assignment, or by taking a course.
Read all about the Raboskills.
The Rabo Academy is an online education platform that serves as the central hub for all the relevant lessons about strategic themes. It’s a place where you can hone the skills that are important for Rabobank and yourself. You can complete the Rabo Academy lessons whenever it suits you.
We also offer more than 3,000 individual online trainings and (audio)books.
Want to work on your skills and gain experience in a different environment? Take on a temporary assignment elsewhere in Rabobank. It increases your chances of advancement within Rabobank and expands your network.
Hybrid working
Rabobank offers a lot of freedom when it comes to how, where, and when you work. In consultation with your team, you decide what the best location and working hours are for your work and the team’s.
Read all about hybrid working at Rabobank.
Whether it’s from home, the office, or temporarily abroad, Rabobank embraces hybrid working. And we make sure you can do it well anywhere.
A Good Home Office
We ensure you have good home office. You can choose your own combination of desk, chair, and computer screen, for instance. Whatever you need. You will be given this material on loan as long as you are an employee of Rabobank. The best part is, if you ever decide to leave Rabobank, we will reuse the materials again.
Remote Working Allowance
If you work from home five days a week you will receive EUR 42,80 in remote working allowance. The amount of compensation depends on how many days you work remotely: if you work from home three days a week, you’ll receive EUR 25,68 a month.
Internet Allowance
Employees who work 36 hours receive an allowance for internet costs. Employees who work fewer hours receive the internet allowance pro rata.
Do you want to spend some time working abroad? So you can visit family or have a workation? You have options as long as your duties allow it and your manager agrees. Whether your request is granted also depends on the country you propose and the relevant legislation and regulations that apply there.
Hybrid working has blurred the boundaries between work and personal time. That is why we encourage all our employees to find ways to maintain a good balance in order to keep up their energy levels during and after the working day.
We encourage you to adopt these habits in your work:
- Switch off: make sure that private time really is private time. Turn off notifications and put your telephone and laptop away.
- Time to focus: plan focus time so that you can focus fully on your work without distractions.
- Daily mile: take a walk every day to clear your head.
- Shorter meetings: we’re shortening the length of all internal meetings from 60 to 50 minutes, and from 30 to 25 minutes. So that you have time for a break and to stretch your legs!
Work on the world around you
When you work at Rabobank, you don’t just work on building your own future, you also work to improve the world around you.

What can you do yourself?
As a Rabobank employee you also receive one cooperative day per calendar year. You can use this day to make a contribution to a social goal, whether alone or with your team. It’s a great day for you and good for the world around you!
On our volunteer platform, you can easily choose an activity that suits you. Each activity contributes to one of our three key transitions: the energy transition, the food transition, or financial well-being. In addition, there are other local projects that allow you to make a direct impact in your community.
