You & your role
As Senior Data Engineer, you combine technical expertise with leadership to turn complex data challenges into scalable and reliable solutions. You guide and mentor engineers, collaborate closely with stakeholders across business and technology, and drive the development of data products that deliver high-quality insights for Financial Crime Compliance monitoring, decision-making and reporting. By leveraging your expertise in data architecture, data management, and technologies such as Python, Spark and SQL, you ensure the delivery of robust, future-ready solutions that align with business needs and strategic objectives. You take ownership of solution design and continuous improvement, proactively identifying opportunities, mitigating risks, and fostering innovation within the team.
You will work within a modern cloud-based data ecosystem and leverage technologies such as Azure, Databricks, Python, Spark, SQL and Power BI. Based on this, you enable the delivery of solutions that support data modernization, advanced analytics, process optimization and regulatory compliance.
The Area Data Capabilities is responsible for implementing the foundational IT data capabilities that support the W&R domain. As the central expertise hub for Client and Party Data, Document Management, Management Information, Data Access, Data Availability, Data Analytics, and Cognitive Capture, the Area ensures that W&R can rely on a robust and future-ready data landscape.
Examples from practice
- Reviewing a solution design with engineers and coaching team members on data modelling, code quality, and engineering best practices.
- Identifying performance bottlenecks in a data pipeline and implementing improvements that increase reliability, processing efficiency, and data quality.
- Partnering with FEC specialists and business stakeholders to design a new dashboard that provides actionable insights into client risk profiles and operational processes.

- Lead the design, development, and maintenance of scalable data products and analytics solutions that support FEC insight, reporting, and decision-making.
- Ensure the quality, reliability, and maintainability of the squad's data landscape by promoting engineering standards, governance principles, and continuous improvement.
- Act as a senior technical leader within the squad, mentoring engineers, driving solution ownership, and contributing to the strategic evolution of the Data Capabilities domain.

You & your talent
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in Data Engineering and BI development, preferably in Azure ecosystem
- Experience with Azure Databricks, Azure Data Factory, Airflow, and YAML
- Strong proficiency in both Python and SQL
- Knowledge on power BI report building
- Knowledge of data modelling, data lakehouse and ETL processes.
- Proficient in Azure Devops, CI/CD practices with Git, and scripting deployment workflows.
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum and DevOps delivery environments.
- Analytical, problem-solving skills, showing ownership and accountability.
- Collaborative team player who can influence stakeholders and drive results.
- You must be located in the Netherlands, re-location is not possible for this role.
