About the role
We are looking for a Lead Data Engineer to help design, build, operate & evolve our local data platforms, driving advanced analytics & data-driven decision making.
This role will lead the design, build, operation & optimisation of enterprise-scale data platforms on Microsoft Azure. You will bring deep expertise across Azure services including Data Factory, Synapse Analytics, Databricks, Data Lake Storage & Microsoft Fabric, combined with strong engineering, architecture & problem-solving skills.
You will play a key role in delivering scalable data solutions, defining data strategy, strengthening governance & security, and partnering with business & technology teams to unlock the value of data.
Top Role Responsibilities:
- Deliver high-quality data engineering solutions & project milestones within agreed timelines & scope
- Ensure effective platform operations, lifecycle management & service reliability
- Resolve production issues & service requests in a timely manner
- Maintain data loads & platform performance in line with defined SLAs
- Ensure accurate data reconciliation & validation across source systems
- Optimise ETL/ELT processes, performance & storage costs
- Collaborate with Business Analysts, Architects, Data Engineers & business stakeholders
- Champion engineering best practices, continuous improvement & knowledge sharing across the team
To be successful, you will have:
- 10+ years' experience in Data Engineering or Data Warehousing roles designing scalable, resilient data solutions
- Strong hands-on experience with Azure Data Factory (ADF), Azure Databricks, Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS), Azure Synapse Analytics & Azure SQL
- Proven experience designing, building & maintaining scalable data pipelines & integration solutions
- Strong understanding of modern data engineering principles, Lakehouse architecture & data lifecycle management
- Expertise in SQL, data modelling, performance tuning & database optimisation
- Experience with data quality, validation, monitoring & troubleshooting
- Strong development skills in Python, PySpark &/or Scala
- Knowledge of data governance, security, privacy & compliance frameworks
- Experience with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, Git & Azure DevOps
- Experience with data ingestion frameworks & event-driven architectures
- Exposure to Microsoft Fabric, Microservices & APIs
- Experience within Banking, Financial Services & Insurance (BFSI) environments is highly regarded
- Microsoft Certifications
Location & Working Arrangements:
This role must be based in Sydney & offers a flexible hybrid working model of office & working from home.
