How do you help thousands of engineers exchange data smoothly, while growing fast in your first Rabobank role? Discover your potential as a Junior Platform & DevOps Engineer in the Early Career Program at Rabobank.
You and your future
During the Early Career Program at Rabobank, you work on your career in a junior position within the Kong Platform & Infra team. You help improve an important integration platform that supports application data exchange across Rabobank. At the same time, you follow workshops, training modules and business challenges with other starters.
And then? You grow into a broader Platform & DevOps Engineer role, with practical experience in API management, cloud, on-premise environments and platform engineering. You build a strong network within Rabobank and learn how technology supports a large financial organisation.
You will start in a team that works with a strategic platform used by engineers across the bank. The role is broad: from working on pipelines and automation to helping develop platform solutions that make integration easier for thousands of internal users. A start in September or October is possible.
What is Kong and why does it matter?
Kong is Rabobank's strategic API management platform. It helps engineers securely expose, discover and manage APIs that allow applications to exchange data with each other.
Modern banking depends on hundreds of applications working together seamlessly. Kong provides the gateway, security, governance and developer experience needed to make these integrations reliable, scalable and secure. As part of the Kong Platform & Infra team, you help ensure that engineers across Rabobank can build and operate integrations efficiently.
In short
- Help improve the Kong API management platform that engineers use to build interfaces between applications.
- Learn how cloud and on-premise environments work together in a large financial organisation.
- Work with experienced engineers on platform improvements, automation, incidents and practical solutions for internal users.
- Develop yourself through a structured 18-month Early Career Program while contributing to real business-critical technology.
Practical
- Starting date: September/October
- Hours per week: 40
- Length: Early Career Program: 18 months
- After which you will continue to work with us as Junior Platform & DevOps Engineer within the Kong Platform team
You & your role
As a Junior Platform & DevOps Engineer, you know the secrets of learning fast in a complex technical environment. You are curious about how applications exchange data, how engineers build interfaces and how a platform can make their work easier.
You become part of the Kong Platform & Infra team. This team works on a mission-critical integration platform within Rabobank. The platform helps internal engineers discover, adopt and integrate with API management solutions. It runs partly in the cloud and partly on-premise, which makes the work varied and practical.
This is not a traditional engineering role where you focus on a single narrow task. You learn how a platform works end-to-end. You help with development, operations, incidents, improvements and collaboration with other teams. You do not need to be a technical expert yet. You do need to be IT-minded, eager to learn and ready to take ownership.
You help the team move towards a way of working where everyone feels responsible for the full platform. That includes development, operations and continuous improvement. You bring energy, openness and a team mindset.
Your development in the Early Career Program
How will you grow as a starter while contributing to real technology at Rabobank?
In the Rabobank Early Career Program, you will work on your personal and professional development for 18 months. This includes personal leadership, relevant professional skills, sustainability themes and learning how a bank operates. In addition to personal development, you will follow a learning track that supports your technical growth as a Platform & DevOps Engineer.
You will meet fellow starters from different departments on a regular basis and work within your own team on the remaining days. Through business challenges, workshops and assignments, you will get to know a large part of the bank.
During your first months, the focus will be on onboarding, learning the platform and getting comfortable with the way we work. As your confidence grows, you will gradually take ownership of your own projects and platform responsibilities.
Learning from each other
Development is our top priority. Because the best way to learn is by doing, through mistakes and successes. At Rabobank, we offer you the right balance between freedom and supervision. To develop talents you never thought you possessed. To specialise in a professional field or explore the things you are good at and enjoy doing.
During your Early Career Program, you can count on excellent guidance. You will work closely with experienced colleagues and have frequent contact with fellow young professionals across the organisation.
"You are allowed to make mistakes, but do not be afraid to share them. Solving problems and learning from each other is how we excel." – Jerrel de Paauw, Tech Lead
Work on your own development & shape the world around you
For us, your development and that of society go hand in hand. That is why we want to invest in you and work together towards a better world.
We summarise this in one sentence:
"At Rabobank, you work on yourself and the world around you at the same time."
This is reflected in your personal development budget, our hybrid work environment and a healthy work-life balance. You can work on banking services for our private and business clients, but also contribute to societal themes such as food and energy transitions.
In this role, your work helps internal engineers at Rabobank exchange application data more easily. By reducing complexity in integration and improving platform capabilities, you help others work faster, safer and more effectively.
You and your talent
- You have a university background and are IT-minded, for example through a study or specialisation with an IT component.
- You are interested in platform engineering, cloud technology, API management and how applications connect with each other.
- You have 0 to 2 years of relevant work experience.
- You are located in the Netherlands.
- You take ownership of your work, your learning and your career.
- You are a team player who steps in when work needs to be done, including tasks that may not always be the most exciting.
