Agile working: responding to change rapidly and efficiently
At Rabobank we believe in “Growing a better world together.” To achieve our mission, our teams are flexible, self-managing, and customer friendly. We call this method of working Simplify@Scale.

What is Simplify@Scale?
Agile working allows us as a large organization to respond rapidly and efficiently to changes. I also helps us retain our competitive edge and stay relevant in a fast-changing world. Our customers’ satisfaction is among our highest priorities, along with the well-being of our employees and achieving robust operating results.
The principles of Simplify@Scale
In 2018, the first teams at Rabobank began to adopt agile working by organizing into tribes and chapters. Today, more than 10,000 employees work in agile, multidisciplinary teams. Every team is composed of employees with unique abilities. Each team member has their own role and the whole team shares responsibility for the final product. The teams have a lot of team-specific responsibility and may make decisions independently.
These are the fundamentals of Simplify@Scale:
- Shared vision and roadmap: all teams work together on a common goal.
- Customer focus: it’s all about the customer. Therefore, teams test their products and use test results to improve them.
- Ownership: teams take ownership and may make decisions independently.
- Achieve results and learn: it’s okay to make mistakes! We see mistakes as learning opportunities. Everyone in the team feels safe and free to speak their minds.
- Cooperation: we share our experiences and help each other achieve a common goal.
- Fact-based decision-making: teams make decisions based on facts, according to clear objectives and KPIs, customer insights, and by testing results.
- One agile way of working: Simplify@Scale enables teams to cooperate transparently through one way of working.
