Senior Energy Strategist
Job Overview/ Purpose:
The senior energy strategist will provide additional research coverage of the energy markets for Rabobank globally and more specifically in Europe. Energy prices are a vital input for many macroeconomic variables and are widely used for forecasting other asset classes. The energy complex is incredibly important for the European economy and an analyst will dramatically improve Rabobank's depth of knowledge for energy markets and in particular, European gas. The current energy crisis means this is top of mind for our client base. The role will also supplement sales and trading in order to better service Rabobank’s clients and increase revenue across CRTM, TCF and R&R.
Context of Job:
RaboResearch (RR) comprises of all of the bank’s global research activities, including research into the Netherlands, Economics and Sustainability (NES), Food & Agribusiness (F&A) and Global Economics & Markets (GEM), and complimented by a Data Science, Digital Content and Global Support team.
RR GEM is the bank’s center of competence for international macroeconomics and financial markets research. The team’s mandate is to ensure key clients have access to meaningful information and analysis to help with their risk management and investment decisions. The team is organized into asset class coverage, including Macro, FX, Rates, Credit & Regulation, Agri Commodities and Energy, and present in the bank’s dealing rooms in Utrecht, London, New York, Singapore and Sao Paolo. Research services are provided internally to Markets, the Executive Board, Treasury, Member Banks, Investor Relations. Externally through Sales, Senior Bankers and Relationship Managers the team primarily services Mid-Size Corporates, Large Corporates and FI Clients. The focus is on value-added activities, i.e. presentations, maintenance/special reports, media profiling, responding to ad hoc client requests.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
Maintain research for the European energy market with a focus on natural gas
Produce forecasts for European natural gas and related energy products.
Produce trade ideas across the energy complex.
Contribute/provide support to timely periodical reports: weekly, monthly, as well as regular theme-driven specials. Emphasis on tailor-made, event and theme-driven research, rather than maintenance reports.
Support the provision of tailor-made research solutions to key clients to complement Markets Sales efforts, including conference calls, presentations and client visits.
Swift interpretation of market events/data/developments and communication thereof to internal stakeholders (sales, traders), as well as clients.
Participation in ad hoc working groups and brainstorming with key people in Markets, Rabobank Group, regular morning briefings with Sales & Traders, as well as ad hoc communication.
Contribute positively to the global research program, by actively interacting with and leveraging off other analysts within RR GEM, often in different geographical locations, as well as other research teams within Rabobank.

Has professional freedom in decision making and in “what needs to be done” regarding all standard financial markets research related tasks. Is able to act and decide independently, whilst seeking guidance or input from senior management.

Research: Colleagues in the GEM team, but also other research teams within Rabobank.
Sales & CM: Predominantly CRTM and R&R.

Where required, participation in relevant value chain(s) alongside Energy Transition team, Trading and Sales in order to gather feedback, improve co-operation and meet objectives of client coverage and capturing client spread. Ensuring research is optimally aligned in this process.
