Context of Job 

F&A Sector Banking is part of Corporate Finance Origination under One Wholesale’s Advisory and Investment function and is responsible for the globally steered F&A Sector strategy and the uniform implementation of the client service model throughout all regions. Corporate Finance Origination includes F&A Sector Banking, FAS and Sponsor Coverage. The F&A Sector Banking Group will strive for thought leadership and lead the delivery of all products to the clients in the chosen F&A sectors to support the ambition of being the Global Leading F&A Bank.

The F&A Sector Banking Group is led by the Global Head F&A Sector Banking with all Global F&A Sector Heads reporting to the Global Head F&A Sector Banking. This Junior Banker position will report to the respective Global Sector Head and work closely on a day to day with the sector based team. The position will be located in New York.

Strategic and business objectives of the unit

  • To be successful event originators capable of sustaining strategic dialogue with some of the bank’s largest and most important global clients.
  • Active and consistent coverage of chosen clients and prospects in close cooperation with the GSHs. Make use of all sector knowledge, contacts and product offering available within the bank to optimize our strategic relevance to the client
  • Position for the strategic relevant transactions maximizing Rabobank revenues

Autonomy

  • Contributes to the definition and implementation of the team business plan
  • Is autonomous in the execution of F&A Sector Banking policies and objectives for the Event Origination team within clearly defined lines of policy
  • Guarantees the process and high performance culture by coaching and supporting team members
  • Is responsible for the quality of presentations, pitches and advice of the Global Sector Heads.
  • Is responsible for management issues including adherence to local compliance rules and licensing requirements, maintain integrity and timelines of information in our systems
  • Is responsible for supporting and contributing to building, improving and strengthening the cooperation with other departments
  • Is autonomous in leading the originating mandates as lead banker for assigned clients and own sector/market
  • Autonomous in decision making on operational matters within the event origination team within clearly defined lines of policy (ensuring the presence of necessary resources within the department)
  • Acts as a project manager or as a representative in projects
  • Making a careful consideration between results and risks with a focus on maintaining and increasing customer confidence and guaranteeing the customer's interest

Reporting

  • Reports hierarchically to the Global Sector Head regarding the different Projects.

Alignment

  • Consults with GSHs concerning development and implementation of the sector business plan
  • Consults with GSHs concerning priority setting for client/sector area
  • Consults with GSHs concerning Event Origination with core clients
  • Maintains and optimizes an international network within Rabobank
  • Maintains contacts and ensures alignment with all Global Sector Heads about developing strategy and the origination of transactions
  • Maintains contacts and ensures alignment with the knowledge departments (FAR) concerning identifying opportunities, increasing cooperation in origination and marketing opportunities

Regulatory framework

  • Bound to the regulatory and legal framework (compliance)
  • Bound to Rabobank regulatory, policies and procedures (compliance)
  • Bound to strategy and departmental goals of Rabobank Wholesale
  • Bound to the policies and procedures of the F&A Sector Banking team

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

Developing strategy

  • Co-develops, in cooperation with a Global Sector Head, the Sector strategy and ambition for assigned clients/ parts of a specific sector/market

Realising and implementing strategy

  • Contributes to the proper execution of the Sectors business plans
  • Takes full ownership of parts of the sector/market plans
  • Sets and reviews the objectives of the Event Origination Team
  • Develops, supports and facilitates new initiatives to develop F&A Sector business in the region

Originating deals

  • Defines with the Global Sector Heads the opportunities, positioning and coverage of clients and prospects in the local market/region and translates these opportunities into pitches in cooperation with other departments/ business-lines and presents these pitches on CEO/CFO level
  • Responsible for an efficient and effective preparation of the pitch process from start to rehearsal and final pitch
  • Contributes to the Client Coverage teams, to the Relation Development Plans and the execution of those plans  
  • Improves relationships with clients covered by the Global Sector Heads
  • Prepares and negotiates engagement agreements (under restriction of internal approval)
  • Analyzing customer’s needs to develop pro-active solutions

  • Monitors the progress, quality and development of employee activities, advises and provides support
  • Contributes to team building efforts
  • Plays a significant role in recruiting efforts for junior personnel so that we hire the best possible candidates 
  • Is expected to share expertise within and outside the department
  • Is a role model for the junior team members and a senior representative of Rabobank

Building and maintaining a network

  • Builds and maintains a network of internal and external stakeholders and also builds in order to look after the F&A Sector Banking interests effectively and to be well informed
  • Builds and maintains an active professional network within the sectors and initiates new contacts within the sectors
  • Builds regional sector franchise in terms of contact and visible transactions
  • Develops and shares market- and client knowledge within Rabobank (while maintaining all compliance requirements)
  • Represents F&A Sector Banking in strategic project committees and other group structures when appropriate

Development

  • The VP is expected to develop over time to a position where he or she can act on a standalone basis and ultimately develop further into the new Global Sector Head.

Job Requirements:

Experience

  • At least 6 years of relevant working experience in investment banking
  • Experience in building and maintaining a network of owner/CEO/CFO/head of strategy and M&A - level contacts
  • Assists the Global Sector Head in building a sector team

Education

  • Undergraduate or Master’s degree

Required knowledge
