Image using your knowledge and skills to contribute to Rabobank’s outlook for the global economy. As international economist, you will combine analytical tools with compelling storytelling to provide our clients with fresh economic insights on themes that are on top of their minds, ranging from Brexit, trade wars to geopolitical tensions. Through discussions with our clients, you will enable them to make better strategic decisions. Moreover, as an international economic expert, you keep close contact with external stakeholders and researchers, speak to the media and contribute to the broad public debate, with the ultimate goal of maintaining Rabobank’s position as a leading economic knowledge institute.


Making a difference

  • You will be monitor and analyse economic, political and social developments in Northern Europe (i.e. France, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, Nordics), using sophisticated analytical tools

With each other
Collaboration is at the heart of everything we do. At RaboResearch Global Economics & Markets (GEM), market strategists and economists strive to position Rabobank as leading economic knowledge institute. We combine short-term analyses, tracking and explaining high-frequency market movements, with medium to long-term research projects. As a Food & Agri bank, there is close co-operation with our colleagues from Food & Agri Research (FAR). An important part of the job is contributing to the global forecasting process of Rabobank. You will have the responsibility for the economic projections for Northern Europe, working closely together with Markets colleagues in London and Utrecht. Furthermore, you will be participating in thematic research projects, which require both creativity and determination to make a difference.


You work closely with colleagues across Rabobank, such as relationship managers (International Business Advisory), the risk department and local banks. But you will also expand your network with stakeholders outside the bank, such as other knowledge institutions, government bodies and the media. As international economist, you will be work closely together with people in different areas, such as:

With you

Analytical skills, creativity and compelling storytelling are essential for the role of Macro Economist within GEM. In addition, it's important that you recognise everything in the checklist below:  

  • A master's degree in economics or econometrics, or a technical study in combination with proven skills and experience in the field of economic research;
  • Experience in data analytics, strong quantitative skills and experience in using econometric models or econometric software/programming (R, Python, Eviews, Stata);

  • Ability to conduct economic research projects, show creativity in complex problem-solving and work independently;

  • Fluent in English and Dutch, both verbally and in writing;

  • Fluent/native German or French is considered an advantage;

  • Ability to translate analysis into clear take-away messages in reports, presentations and videos/podcasts.

  • A gross monthly salary €3.179,64 to €5.252,05;

  • A personal budget that you can spend on activities related to your personal development and career;

  • Flexible working times and location-independent working;

  • Personal contributions to a pension scheme of only 5%.
